Edu given key transfer reminder as Real Madrid make intentions clear with ideal Arsenal signing

Arsenal have been given a Fabian Ruiz transfer reminder as Real Madrid set their transfer intentions with the Napoli midfielder

Real Madrid make a transfer move for Arsenal transfer target Fabian Ruiz.

Arsenal are still on the hunt for a midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window despite already signing Fabio Vieira in June. Youri Tielemans seemed to be the main midfield target, but a deal has stalled.

Another player Arsenal had been heavily linked with leading up to the summer window was Fabian Ruiz, but a deal has yet to materialise so far. A big reason for this could be due to the interest also registered by Real Madrid.

Arsenal need to sign another midfielder before the end of the transfer window to solve the lack of quality in depth in the middle of the park. Ruiz certainly would have been a good option, but Madrid’s new intentions with the player would make a deal difficult.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported in June that Arsenal are the most interested party in the Spanish international, with Newcastle also said to be keen on the 26-year-old. Ruiz has just over 12 months left on his contract at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Whilst La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with the former Real Betis star, who has made it no secret of his desire to return to the Spanish top-flight one day.

Real Madrid have increased their interest in the midfielder, but they would rather wait until next season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Ruiz’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2022/2023 season, meaning he can be signed as a free agent at the end of the campaign.

“It’s flattering to hear about these clubs’ interest in me, that’s for sure,” Ruiz said earlier this year when asked about reported interest from Real and Barca. “Right now, I only think of Napoli, I am very comfortable here, and we have big challenges ahead.

“The idea of returning to Spain in the future is always present: it is my home.”

If Arsenal want to complete a deal, they will have to be efficient in their negotiations as it seems Ruiz has his heart set on a move back to his home nation. But with Real Madrid only willing to sign him next year, it gives the Gunners window of opportunity to potentially complete a deal.
