The two clubs have been handed a huge boost heading into the brand new Premier League season

The Premier League season is just days away as club prepare for yet another long campaign, with a few differences. Chelsea and Tottenham are among the sides impacted by changes ahead of the new season, with both competing in the Champions League once again.

For the Blues, it comes after a long and tough summer, with struggles in pre-season results as well as difficulties landing their preferred transfer targets. Three additions have been made so far, but boss Thomas Tuchel was unsure how prepared his side would be come the first game against Everton.

“I cannot guarantee we will be ready [for the start of the season] in two weeks,” the German coach said. It’s the same players so why should anything change?”

The mood couldn’t be more different at Tottenham though, with the club beginning their hopeful climb up the table under Antonio Conte. The Italian coach managed to guide his team to an unlikely top four finish, boasting a return to the Champions League in the next campaign.

The manager was keen to stress his need for new signings though and he has been backed in the summer transfer market. Six players have made the move to north London so far, with increased squad depth for the busy season ahead.

‘We must respect national teams’ – Koulibaly on Napoli AFCON row

The ex-Napoli defender reacts to his former club saying they won’t sign Africans who want to play at AFCON.

Plenty of changes will be apparent in the league, with five substitutions reintroduced, along with a new system to get the ball back in-play quicker. However, there is one key change that is set to help Chelsea and Tottenham over other clubs.

That is the change that states teams involved in Wednesday night Champions League games cannot be scheduled for an early kick-off on the Saturday for TV in the Premier League. It comes after months of complaining from top managers over the time they have to prepare for such a quick turnaround.
