Lying on the ground, painfully thin and dehydrated, a rope still tied tightly around her neck, the dog known as Lolo had endured unimaginable suffering. Her ribs were painfully visible, her body fragile and trembling from starvation, but the worst was her leg—a wound so deep and infected that exposed bone peeked through the skin. Seeing her in such a state, I knew I couldn’t turn away. I had never seen a wound so severe, nor witnessed such raw evidence of neglect.
Upon rescuing her, we rushed Lolo to the veterinary clinic where she was given painkillers and immediate treatment for fleas and ticks. Her leg was carefully bandaged, but the infection was extensive, and sepsis loomed as a very real threat. Her entire body was at risk; she was so weak that even the slightest infection could push her over the edge. A blood transfusion was needed, her only chance at survival, and I prayed that her fragile body would respond to the treatment.
Days passed, and Lolo’s spirits began to lift. She even wagged her tail—a small, miraculous sign of resilience that gave everyone hope. With her wounds carefully tended, she was able to rest and heal, surrounded by people who cared for her. Slowly but surely, Lolo began to recover.
