Jack Grealish finally ended his 392-day goal drought after scoring for Man City in their FA Cup third round match against Salford.
Grealish increased the score to 4-0 in the match Man City vs Salford after successfully converting the penalty
This winger’s last goal for the Green Man was in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on December 16, 2023. Since the start of the 2023/24 season, he has only scored 3 goals and had 5 assists in 53 appearances for Man City until Saturday night’s match.
Grealish scored from the penalty spot to help Man City lead Salford 4-0 at home. But he could only celebrate quietly in front of the crowd at the Etihad even though his teammates still rushed to share the joy.
Before scoring, Grealish assisted Jeremy Doku to open the score to put Man City ahead. And they took advantage of this to score seven more goals, winning 8-0 on aggregate – Salford’s heaviest defeat in their 85-year history.
Grealish also contributed to another goal in the 81st minute. His good pass helped James McAtee complete his first hat-trick in his professional career.
Grealish’s goal came a week after coach Pep Guardiola criticized his poor form this season. The Spanish strategist admitted that he wished Grealish could regain the form he had in the 2022/23 treble season.
After the win over Salford, Guardiola also shared about Grealish: “He scored 1 goal and had 1 nice assist. Jack is a special player who doesn’t score many goals often. But I think that depends on him.”
